Grants for biomass energy projects
The Fifth Round of the Bio-energy Capital Grants Scheme, funded by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), is now open for applications. This round is only open until 30th April 2009.
This scheme differs from the Carbon Trust loan scheme in that it awards capital grants towards the cost of equipment in complete installations. The purpose of the Bio-energy Capital Grants Scheme is to promote the efficient use of biomass for energy, by stimulating the early deployment of biomass fuelled heat and biomass combined heat and power projects.
The key points of the scheme are:
- It is open to the industrial, commercial and community sector.
- There is a variable grant rate of up to 40% of the difference in cost of installing the biomass boiler or CHP plant compared to installing the fossil fuel alternative.
- The maximum single award is £500,000 per installation. There is no minimum award threshold.
- Applications will be assessed as they are received. (Aim to notify applicants within 4-6 weeks)
- Detailed guidance notes for the scheme, and the application form, are downloadable from the Bio-energy Capital Grants Scheme website. www.bioenergycapitalgrants.org.uk
